discern /verb/: 1. to separate, to pull apart

Leadership is hard. Worse, it can also be confusing.

Church or organizational leadership can feel like trying to see the details of a mountain through the fog. You know the mountain is there, you can even see parts, but some things you would need to see to chart a path are obscured.  So often it is hard to know just what to do.  What do you pay attention to, adjust to, or let fly by you?

Whether it is the complexity of the situation you are facing, or just the sheer volume of the pieces, we would like to help with the confusion and frustration.  We will help you to dis-cern, to pull apart the situations, to separate them out.  Then we will partner with you to hear God’s voice in the midst of it.

Leading is hard, but confusion shouldn’t make it harder. Discerning Partners wants to help.

Partnering with you to go from confusion to clarity.

Jim Pace- Founder

At the risk of pulling the “pastors always speak in threes” card, here are my three areas of experience in church and organizational leadership.

I was in ministry and a pastor for 25 years.  In that time we started several new churches and congregations off of the one I helped lead.  We also incubated two others.  So I understand the complexity that can come with leadership.  Discerning what God is calling you to do and how to do it in the midst of everyday church life can feel overwhelming.  I know that feeling very well.

I have also been consulting for the past fifteen years.  I have worked with large mega-churches, small house churches, and in-between; both denominational and non-denominational, domestically and internationally. I have also worked with networks of churches.

My master’s degree in Church Leadership and my doctoral degree in Contextual Theology have given me strong insight into understanding the present church or organizational culture and then charting a course forward.  Other than my forced march through Koine Greek, it has all been very helpful.

Each of these sets of experiences has shaped me into someone that doesn’t come in as the expert with all the answers.  Rather, I come in as a Discerning Partner.  Someone who will bring what I have and will walk alongside you and potentially your team to discern the path ahead more clearly.
